President's Message -- Rob's Ramblings -- Fall 2008
Welcome to another school year!
As of this writing, your President and other NHMEA-types are just returning from a planning session in Providence on the 2009 All-Eastern Bi-Annual Division Conference. President Dave Neves and the folks in Rhode Island are putting together what promises to be a fabulous convention with offerings in all areas. Stay tuned to this journal and MENC.org for more updates.
The major thrust of this message is to encourage one and all to attend the Fall October Musicfest Day sponsored by this Association and the Manchester Community Music School. Maryanne Irish, Josh Desrochers (our new Webmaster), and committee members are putting the final touches on what promises to be an enlightening day of workshops and professional interaction which will be well worthwhile. The event takes place on Thursday, October 16th at the MMCM, with a dinner occurring at the Puritan Backroom in the early evening. The formal day concludes, of course, with the Fall All-Member meeting. Please plan on attending this forum – let your voice be heard.
Our slated featured speaker for the evening will be MENC President Barbara Geer. Having worked with Barbara at the national level recently in Milwaukee, I can assure any attendee that you are in for a treat with Barbara at the mic! Other workshop opportunities and registration information can be found on the webpage.
One final announcement/reminder re: last April’s All-Member Meeting in Concord: After much discussion and input from guests affected by the All-State Auditions change to 1 day, the Executive Board voted in June to return to the 2 day format for one more year only. Please plan on the ’09 audition being one day only – the reasons for the change are substantial, and this President and Executive Board are in full support of Tony DiBartolomeo’s request to cut the second day. Again - 2 days this November; 1 starting in November of 2009.
Have a great year. Thank you all for your continued support, and see you at the October Fest!
Respectfully,
Robert Harrington
