10/1 Message from Mike Adams:

Hi everyone,

I hope your school year is going well.  We are working on the scheduling process for jazz auditions and should have times for you by Thursday 10/9.

It seems that the majority of the choral directors were able to open and download the etude files on the NHMEA website, but a CD is in the mail with the files just to make sure.  The CD also has a brief spoken introduction prior to each track and will be the version we will use in the audition rooms.  If you do not receive the CD by Weds., 10/8, please let me know.

Below this message, I have added a PDF file of the instrumental ballad “I Can’t Get Started”.  As I’m sure most of you have realized, the melody and the chords do not quite match up on the recording specifically in the last 8 measures of the form and the correction is explained in the attachment.  I’ve pasted the written explanation for the correction below should you not be able to open the attachment and can send a hard copy if you should need one- just let me know.  As always- feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Mike

Correction:
In ‘I Can’t Get Started’, the third ending is actually written one measure later than it occurs in the recording.  One way to fix this problem is to treat the D.S. at the end of measure 19 as a D.S. al Coda.  The CODA is actually the third ending (measures 20-23) and the sign indicating “To Coda” is at the end of measure 4.
(Note:  The measures of “I Can’t Get Started” are numbered beginning with the first complete measure as #1).
